It’s often referred to as the “Hollywood” Pentax, due to its rumored connection to the Zeiss Distagon 28mm f/2 optical formula. With a 9-element/8-group design, Super Multi-Coating (SMC), and a 6-blade automatic diaphragm, it delivers a 75° diagonal field of view on full-frame (or ~55° on APS-C), making it ideal for street, documentary, and environmental portraiture. The lens focuses down to 30cm, offers 0.11× magnification, and uses a 52mm filter thread. It weighs a hefty 423g, measures 62.5 × 69mm, and includes a dedicated PH-S52 hood and hard case. Two cosmetic variants exist—SMC PENTAX 1:2/28 (early) and smc PENTAX 1:2 28mm (later)—but both are optically identical.
