Pentax SMC Takumar 15mm f/3.5

(INSERT SINGLE HERO IMAGE HERE - other images below in media section)

Summary

The SMC Takumar 15mm f/3.5 is an ultra-wide-angle manual-focus prime introduced in 1975 for the M42 screw mount, making it one of the last Takumar lenses before Pentax transitioned fully to the K-mount system. It was a groundbreaking design at the time—one of the first rectilinear 15 mm lenses for 35mm film—and is optically identical to the early K-series version. A limited number of units (around 900 total, with 400 featuring an aspherical element) were produced, making it one of the rarest and most collectible Takumars ever made. The lens features a 13-element - 12-group design with Super Multi-Coating (SMC) and a 6-blade automatic diaphragm. It stops down to f/22, focuses as close as 30cm, and delivers a 0.06× magnification ratio. It has a built-in hood, a dedicated hard case, and uses internal rear-mounted filters (Skylight, UV, Yellow Y2, Orange O2) due to its massive, bulbous front element. The lens measures 80 × 81.5mm, weighs 570g, and includes open-aperture metering support on compatible Spotmatic bodies like the ES and ESII.
