Pentax-M SMC 28mm f/2

Summary

The SMC Pentax-M 28mm f/2 is a fast, manual-focus wide-angle prime lens for Pentax K-mount 35mm and full-frame digital SLRs, produced from 1980 to 1984. It features an 8-element/7-group optical design, a 6-blade automatic diaphragm, and Pentax’s Super Multi-Coating (SMC) for enhanced contrast and flare resistance. As the successor to the K-series 28mm f/2, it offers a more compact form while retaining excellent optical performance. With a bright f/2 maximum aperture, it excels in low-light conditions and delivers shallow depth-of-field with smooth bokeh—especially from f/2.8 to f/5.6. The lens focuses down to 0.3m, provides a 0.12× magnification, and uses a 49mm filter thread. It weighs 215g and measures 63 × 41.5mm, making it a solid yet portable choice for street, landscape, and environmental portrait photography.
