Pentax-M SMC 50mm f/1.7

Summary

The SMC Pentax-M 50mm F1.7 is a compact, manual-focus standard prime lens for Pentax K-mount 35mm and full-frame digital SLRs, produced from 1977 to 1984. It shipped with many early Pentax bodies. With a 6-element/5-group optical design and Pentax’s Super Multi-Coating (SMC), it delivers excellent sharpness, contrast and color rendition—especially from f/2.8 onward. The fast f/1.7 aperture offers shallow depth-of-field and low-light versatility, while the 6-blade diaphragm produces smooth, natural bokeh. It focuses down to 0.45m, uses a 49mm filter thread, and weighs just 185g in a durable all-metal 63 × 31mm barrel. A popular kit lens for the Pentax K1000 and ME, it remains a favorite among vintage lens enthusiasts for portrait, street and everyday photography. It works with all Pentax digital SLRs and can easily be adapted to mirrorless cameras.
