Dalsa Digital was part of the Teledyne Imaging Group - a semiconductor manufacturer based in Canada. Pioneer of the original 4K digital cinema camera. Dalsa announced their first 4K cinema camera in 2003. The company was forced to close it's digital cinema camera operation in 2008 due to a declining economy and pressure from shareholders.

Summary: Originally rental-only lenses, they were built around Leitz Leica-R still lenses, using only the cores in the custom designed housing. The housing use either a cam/follower focus system or a combination of cams and focus threads. The optical blocks are mounted on linear bearings for smooth movement along the optical axis. They were meant to be serviced after every rental.

The Dalsa 4K lenses were designed to discourage disassembly in an attempt to prevent reverse-engineering or use outside Dalsa control. If disassembled using the wrong procedure, it is nearly impossible to re-assemble correctly.
